Abstract

This thesis investigates the adaptation of a hydrogen ramjet/scramjet injector to the injection of heptane and JP-8 fuels. It focuses on the intricacies of liquid injection mechanisms and their influence on jet atomisation. Using a series of spray tests with di!erent injector geometries observed by shadowgraph, the study investigates these dynamics using water as a surrogate medium. The results are then extrapolated to heptane and JP-8 to provide a basis for real injector behaviour. Using these findings, a working injector was fabricated and successfully tested in a model combustion chamber using heptane. This practical application demonstrates the applicability of the study results
