Abstract

This work is dedicated for the assessment of the Arbitrary Lagrangian Method (ALE) for numerical ditching simulations using the LS-DYNA code. In the scope of this investigation the internal DLR software for structural analysis called PANDORA was used. The main part of the work is related to a benchmark analysis using four consecutive structural models in terms of complexity during water impact: a vertical drop-test with a rigid sphere, a simple flat panel and a double-curved panel in a guided motion and a rigid generic aircraft model in free motion. Findings and general results are discussed.
