Abstract

The role of vibrational and chemical relaxation processes on simulations of expanding hypersonic flows is considered in the present work. The Polynomial Chaos Expansion method is used to obtain uncertainty bounds of relevant flow properties (translational and vibrational temperatures, pressure, species molar fractions), as well as their sensitivities to vibrational relaxation times and chemical reaction rates. The studies are conducted for air flows under conditions relevant to different operating conditions of the HEG (High-enthalpy shock tunnel Göttingen).
