Abstract
The phenomenon of ripple consists in sharp and irregularly spaced features in various scattering cross sections of electrically large low-absorption spheres. The paper explains the ripple by the resonant scattering of the modes excited in the interior of the sphere by the incident rays missing the sphere and presents a full mathematical theory of the phenomenon.
