Abstract

The flow around a train in a tunnel was experimentally investigated at the Tunnel Simulation Facility of the DLR in G¨ottingen. A 1:25 scaled moving train model equipped with flow sensors passed through a 10 m long model tunnel. Parallel to the experiments simulations based on a quasi-1D formulation of the flow were performed. It could be shown that with appropriate adjustment of empirical parameters, the simulation can reproduce the measured pressure and velocity. All deviations between the measured and calculated data can be plausibly explained.
