Abstract

Astrobiology deals with life under extreme conditions on Earth and draws conclusions as to whether this could also be the case on other celestial bodies. The talk focuses on extremophilic microorganisms found in dry areas on Earth and how these organisms are adapted not only to the low availability of water, but also to increased radiation exposure. Finally, it will be considered whether these adaptation mechanisms could also apply to possible past or present life on other planets, such as Mars.
