Henrich Focke’s Lectures at the German Academy of Aeronautical Research 1937 - 1943

Abstract

This paper presents the content of three lectures presented by Henrich Focke at the German Academy of Aeronau-tical Research in the years 1937 (about autogiro and helicopter problems in general and specifically the develop-ment of the Fw 61), 1942 (about the prospect of rotating wing aircraft and some test and use of the Fa 223) and 1943 (research and development of the Fa 223). The first one had been translated into English soon after its publi-cation, but lacked precision. The latter two were classified as secret during wartime, and to both author’s knowledge were not translated. A revision of the translation of the first lecture, and a first-time translation of the other two has been performed recently and published as a NASA CR report accessible to the public, which is complemented by Focke’s biography and more than 100 footnotes with additional information.
