Abstract
The prediction of the fatigue life of a turbine blade requires preliminary fluid dynamics analyses (which are not shown in this manuscript), a structural analysis and finally a HCF analysis. For the structural analysis, two different methods are described in this manuscript: A 0d analysis based on beam theory and a structural 3d Finite Element (FE) analysis. The suggested post-processing HCF analysis method for the structural analyses takes into account both, the pre-stressing of the turbine blade due to centrifugal forces and the vibrational stress, caused by transitions between the admission and the non-admission sections of a partial admission turbine. Finally, all of the abovementioned numerical analysis methods are exemplarily applied to a single turbine blade of the Methane Turbo Pump (TP) of the Liquid Upper Stage Demonstrator Engine (LUMEN).
