Abstract

Remote sensing is an essential method of collecting geoinformation to research status or dynamics of environmental and social systems and processes. The chapter introduces to aspects of remote sensing. In this context remote sensing covers a multitude of different sensors, measuring principles, recording modes, and carrier platforms as well as combinations thereof. This allows the generation of data with various geometric, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolutions. Physical basics of e.g. remote sensing, technical basics of sensors, properties of data are explained.
