Kurzfassung
Hybrid RANS/LES simulations of the Common Research Model in high-lift configuration are presented, which were conducted in the framework of the 4th AIAA High-Lift Prediction Workshop using the finite-volume flow solver TAU on a common hybrid workshop mesh. The baseline setup, which employs the Spalart-Allmaras Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation along with a hybrid low-dissipation low-dispersion spatial scheme and a strictly confined physical time step, yields good agreement with wind-tunnel data around maximum lift in terms of aerodynamic coefficients, separation patterns, as well as pressure distributions on the wing. To assess the sensitivities of the simulation approach, targeted variations in the spatial and temporal discretization, the initialization procedure, and in the RANS background model are considered. Although the deviations from measurements tend to increase with all variations, the global trends of the high-lift aerodynamics are mostly retained which e.g. offers potential for reducing the computational effort in engineering applications by using larger time steps.
