Abstract

An experimental investigation was carried out to stud the change in the shock-structure and the related acoustic field on an underexpanded 2:1 elliptic-slot jet in response to changes in level of underexpansion. Tests were made for jets operating at equivalent. Mach number (Mj) in the range of 1.3 to 2.0. The difference in jet growth along the two planes of an elliptic jet causes a series of bouncing expansion and compression waves to generate a non-symmetric structure of shock-cells, in which the flow changes direction in a non-symmetric pattern, that leads to a variation in the instability characteristics around their circumference.
