Abstract

In this paper, we will present the main results of our research on the supersonic mixing and combustion control using streamwise vortices especially focusing on their roles as large-scale coherent structures in the compressible supersonic flows, wherein strong compressibility effects depress the growth of large-scale vortical structures and resulting turbulent mixing. Generation processes and downstream evolution of large-scale streamwise vortices, their growth rate, breakdown processes to small-scale turbulence are discussed by presenting the results of experiments and numerical simulation for non-combustion and combusting flow cases.
