Abstract

This paper reports on Propulsion 2000, a programme carried out under ESA contract by a consortium led by Fiat Avio with the collaboration of the Aerospace Center DLR-Lampoldshausen (Germany), University of Rome (Italy), and Euroconsult (France). There are two goals in this paper: - To perform an assessment on 45 advanced propulsion concepts in order to define their key technologies. - To perform a trade-off by using 16 mission scenarios (timeframe: the next two decades). For each propulsion system a database has been acquired with information on concept, status of development, country of origin, patents, limiting technologies, characteristics, advantages & disadvantages, and other issues. Also a market survey has been performed in order to take into consideration both market size and trend.
