Abstract

For the design of air-breathing hypersonic vehicles the simulation of the flow inside the propulsion system is of essential interest. To accurately compute the expansion flow of a hydrogen/air mixture at high temperature, the chemical and vibrational nonequilibrium effects must be taken into account. In the Finite Element code for flow simulation that is described in the present paper chemical reactions are modeled by finite rate chemistry and vibrational relaxations are modeled by the Landau-Teller theory. The computational domain is discretised by unstructured grids. Different test cases are computed and the results are compared with measured and numerical data.
