Abstract

The aim of this master thesis is to develop and evaluate a concept for connecting a composite transverse leaf spring to a modified MacPherson suspension system as well as the vehicle body. In addition to fulfilling tasks related with the suspension of the wheels, it is to be determined whether the transverse leaf spring is suitable for exercising tasks relating to the wheel guidance as well as replacing the stabilizer bar. To accomplish this, a literature review is conducted regarding the state of the art of both common and new methods for joining composites; furthermore, general information regarding the tasks of wheel guides and stabilizer bars in addition to the properties of a MacPherson suspension system is researched. This is followed by an analysis of existing concepts for the joining of composite components in automotive engineering, particularly regarding composite transverse leaf springs. Subsequently, a suitable solution for the given requirements is developed, following the process outlined by the guidelines presented by VDI 2221. The final product is then analyzed to determine whether the components are able to withstand the loads which are assumed to occur during vehicle operation. Finally, the results are summarized and an outlook regarding further research is given.
