Abstract

The lidar techniques used for ground-based measurements may all, in principle, be implemented on an airborne or spaceborne platform. This chapter of the handbook describes the techniques and instruments that have been successfully applied on such a platform or are expected to be in operation in the near future. The theory part of the chapter extends the sections in Chaps. 24–27 on ground-based lidar systems with topics that are only relevant for a moving platform.
