Abstract
The presentation discusses barriers to the uptake of post-fossile fuels in aviation. Airport infrastructure and aircraft technology are ready as ASTM D7566 and other standards currently allow for immediate, up to 50% blending of Fischer-Tropsch or HEFA Synthesized Paraffinic Kerosene with conventional jet fuel, with 100% being envisaged for the future. SAF are characterized by a much faster time to market than, e.g., hydrogen-powered aircraft, and a gradual transition is possible. However, high costs and missing incentives, as well as certain legal barriers, currently result in a low uptake of such fuels.
