Application of MpCCI to a Coupled Aeroelasticity-Flight Mechanics Problem using TAU and SIMPACK

The central challenge is to simulate the aeroelastic coupling of the flexible aircraft body with a non-linear aerodynamic solver during a flight manoeuvre which is represented by the overall rigid-body motion of the aircraft. The approach described here is one of two investigated variants and is characterized by the use of a multibody system (MBS) to account for the elastic structure as well as the flight mechanics and its loose coupling to a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. The exchanged data is interpolated with the MpCCI coupling library and transferred through an internet socket allowing a distributed computational environment. One of the investigated configurations is a generic delta wing in guided and free-to-roll manoeuvres for which the simulation results will be verified against data from wind tunnel experiments.
