Abstract
The goal was to develop a closed facility for the testing of the Combined Regenerative Organic food Production (C.R.O.P.®)-filter in terms of gaseous exchange. Role model was the closed environmental control system and testing facility closeD Agricultural lIfe Support sYstem (DAISY), which was developed at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen (FH Aachen) at the Department for Aerospace Engineering. During development and construction of the DAISY chamber, lessons and conclusions were generated by the developing team, which showed a possible optimization path for designing a successor. In conclusion, this master thesis was conducted in order to re-evaluate DAISY in its conceptional parts, fitting the C.R.O.P.®-filter, a trickling filter which aims to recycle biowaste in order to generate fertilizer for space, as well as for agricultural applications, inside and at the same time to adapt the system onto the needs of the filter.
