Expectations on Urban Air Mobility for Different Future Use Cases

Abstract

In order to investigate the possibilities and chances of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in Europe, it is necessary to know the expectations on that field. In addition to the long-term view, the short-term view is also of interest due to the fact that the intermediate state has to be considered to estimate necessary interim stages in development. A survey for passenger transportation by air taxis was conducted to evaluate expectations on possible future use cases. For this reason, four different future use cases, which were created on the basis of theoretical assumptions, were used to query expectations such as customer requirements and service requirements. As target groups for the questionnaire, industry and research facilities working within the field of unmanned aircraft systems were chosen. To enable a short as well as a long-term view, two time horizons 2025 and 2050 were queried. The results of the survey were compared with theoretical assumption of each use case with regard to the time horizon. In addition, the results were analysed regarding different groups of participants to get a clear picture of possible differences.
