Abstract

The separation process of the SpaceLiner Booster from the SpaceLiner Passenger Stage is crucial for the success of the SpaceLiner’s mission and also for the passenger’s safety. Hence, a safe, clean, fast and reliable separation has to be guaranteed and proven. In this study, the multibody dynamics of the separation process have been investigated considering the use of solid propellant motors to accelerate the SpaceLiner Booster away from the Passenger Stage. Furthermore, critical failure modes have been simulated and identified and a baseline for the separation process has been defined.
