Abstract

A CFD solver which accounts for solid, liquid and vapor phases, as well phasechange from liquid to vapor and vice versa is developed. This solver is extended to account for multiple components in the vapor phase and the phase-change model is adapted. Experiment data concerning the stratification of liquid hydrogen in a cryogenic tank system are analysed. The vessel is pressurized in one case with hydrogen and in another case with a mixture of hydrogen and helium. Using the extended solver, the experiment is simulated and the obtained temperature profiles in the liquid are compared. Furthermore, a study concerning the influence of the heat input through the wall is performed.
