Abstract

For modeling atomization and combustion procces in a liquid rocket engine (LRE) it is essential to know the velocity distribution of the liquid components. Generally, in cryogenic engines shear coax injectors are used which produce a highly non-uniform spray pattern. Large velocity gradients and a wide size distribution of liquid droplets and ligaments typically prohibit the application of commercially available PIV software. The method presented bases on image enhancement techniques, a modified PIV data treatment and in addition on object recognition and iterative object pairing to overcome the above mentioned problems.
