Abstract
Automation and control systems used in research must be open, flexible and cost-efficient. One way to provide scientists with such a system is to build several key components from scratch using advanced software and network technologies. This papers examines the following technological stack: Rust and Common Lisp as programming languages, ZeroMQ and CAN for networking. We discuss design and implementation issues while considering a particular use case - a fuel cell system control.
