Kurzfassung
Electric mobility is being promoted as the most promising technology to realise the shift towards a decarbonised transport system. Yet, the roll-out of an extensive network of public fast chargers, that meets the charging needs of current and future users, is considered an essential prerequisite for resolving perceived range restrictions to increase the usability of battery electric vehicles. Based on an online survey of German users and non-users, this thesis explored user requirements on fast charging infrastructure and examined in how far these varied between user groups from urban and rural areas. User diversity was further emphasised through the development of distinct user profiles, which reflect different user’s charging needs and thus provide insights into specific preferences regarding the use of public fast charging stations. The outcome of the study reveals that accessibility, availability and high charging capacities are important criteria for the use of public charging stations. Further, motorway service and petrol stations as well as shopping facilities were specified as particularly relevant locations for fast charging. In view of the settlement context, BEV usage patterns were found to vary significantly between urban and rural users, while no significant variations could be determined regarding charging preferences and usage intentions.
