Abstract

The pressure sensitive paint intensity and lifetime method were used for basic research and PSPmeasurements in wind tunnels and turbo machines, to investigate and understand as well as the qualitative and quantitative aerodynamic measurements mainly in transonic flow. A number of investigations in different speed ranges from transonic to low speed flow were realized and compared with conventional techniques like pressure taps and light sheets. Also the influence of errors were checked and the comparison to numerical methods done. Various models from the basic configuration as a double-delta-wing up to a complex Airbus A340 half-model and oscillating turbine blades were investigated. Finally two excellent PSP systems are available now to perform precise measurements and support the theory using these techniques.
