Abstract

The present Bachelor thesis deals with the dimensioning and characterization of a new, to be developed, reactor design. This reactor will be filled with metal hydride and investigated for an application as air conditioning system of an air cooled fuel cell. After dimensioning, experiments at various conditions will be performed with the new reactor. The experiments show how different pressures, temperatures and fan power influence the reaction rate and the heating of the air behind the reactor. For comparison, the identical experiments will be performed with another, already existing reactor. The comparison of both reactors shows that the design of the reactor has a strong influence on the heat transfer to the air. The newly developed design is better than the existing one, as with this design higher air temperatures and higher thermal power output can be reached, while the weight is much lower.
