The scope of the encyclopedia entry is to provide an overview of the current technologies and vehicle concepts for automated and connected driving. It reviews literature to analyze energy consumption of automated road vehicles as well as transport systems with CAVs. This includes a description of influencing factors on energy consumption at the vehicle level (passenger cars and commercial vehicles) and road transport system levels, as well as considerations of possible future developments.
