Abstract

OpenDRIVE has been a community-driven de facto standard and emerged as an XML-based road network description format in the domain of driving simulation, mainly focussing on mapping of simple road layouts with all traffic-relevant infrastructure. Being initially designed for the modelling of artificial/imaginary data for simulation and scenario-based testing it is increasingly used to depict real-word data in complex urban settings. Due to OpenDRIVE's mathematical, continuous geometry representation this leads to challenges which have been previously addressed by the DLR in its "Road2Simulation Guidelines" and are now being dealt with by ASAM in the transfer process to an automotive industry standard.
