Insight II: Status report

Abstract

This interdisciplinary approach will enhance the scientific outcome of accelerometer missions by improving the data quality and quantifying the errors. The focus lies on Swarm and GOCE. To achieve this aim, we target the following project goals: Understanding the features of accelerometer measurements by verifying the hypothesis of the interaction of space sensors with the ionosphere, Estimation of neutral density uncertainties by a new innovative method, inverting the usual way of data assimilation, Demonstration of the improvement of empirical ionospheric and physics based models by assimilation of Swarm measurements (Langmuir probe, accelerometer) and accelerometer data of other missions, Improving the GOCE standalone gravity field by reducing the noise in the gradients and recalibrating the gradiometer
