Abstract

Stereoscopic PIV measurements from an artificially tripped boundary layer flow a long a flat plate will be presented. To deduce the average dimensions of the dominant flow structures and their contribution to the Reynolds stress, spatial correlations and instantaneous velocity fields are examined. To study the time evolution of the various flow structures in detail, the flow field was illuminated with orthogonally linearly polarized light and the light scattered by the tracer particles was separated by means of a beam splitter onto the four frames of two progressive scan CCD cameras
