Abstract

The European Union H2020 project C3HARME has been established for investigations on fibre reinforced ultra-high temperature ceramics with regard to their detailed mechanical and thermal characterization and further qualification for application in harsh propulsion and space environments. This paper is focusing on the qualification of these materials for use as a surface layer of a thermal protection system for atmospheric entry. Test requirements, the test facility, details of experimental setup and test conditions are being discussed in particular.
