Abstract

DLR's Simplified Hazard Area Prediction Method (SHAPe) method estimates simplified hazard areas for wake vortex encounters by applying one single criterion, the roll control ratio. The only required aircraft specific information is the aircraft type of the encountering aircraft in order to obtain the simplified hazard area dimensions for a given RCR limit value and wake vortex circulation. Hence the SHAPe method can be universally applied on a research and development level for safety assessment of wake vortex separation concepts and wake vortex advisory systems. This document describes the SHAPe method and contains a user guide for using the software.
