Future synthetic aperture radar (SAR) missions create the need for new accurate reference targets. Based on the existing DLR Kalibri transponders a new generation of reference targets is currently under development. For L-band applications a novel dual-polarized antenna was designed. As a simultaneous reception and retransmission of the SAR signal in all polarizations takes place in the transponder, the antenna coupling is a determining factor for the transponder's design. This paper aims to describe the current development stage of DLR's next generation of Kalibri transponders.
