Abstract

This bachelor thesis describes the design of the electrical power subsystem (EPS) of a mobile, deployable plant cultivation unit (MEPA) for use in crisis regions and deserts. The aim of this thesis is to design the electrical power subsystem of the MEPA with regard to the energy demand of the CEA systems used for the plant cultivation process both during the day and the night. In essence, the design of the electrical power subsystem was carried out in four steps. The first step was to define the requirements for the electrical power subsystem. This includes the determination of the required energy or power in various operating scenarios. Subsequently, a EPS-architecture, which is decisive for the efficiency of the overall system, was designed. In the last two steps, suitable solar and accumulator cells could be selected and dimensioned based on power requirements and system efficiency. The choice fell on triple junction cells for the solar array and on Li-Ionen cells for the battery. The results of this work serve as a first basis and can be used for further steps in the development of the electrical power subsystem of the MEPA.
