Abstract

This article deals with the procedures to determine the static pressure from Numerical Weather Prediction models (NWP) and its comparison with in-flight measurements. Step-by-step instructions to acquire and prepare the relevant meteorological data for the analysis are described, including its online location for download. A method for the transformation of height references is presented, in order to convert inflight measurements into a common system with meteorological data. Calculation algorithms are explained that compute the static model pressure derived from NWP along the flight path of the observed aircraft. Application examples are given that are based on the method presented in this article and they have already been used or may be used for future applications.
