Aeroacoustics of Rotorsystems and Airframe Noise Sources

DLR studies rotor noise sources through dedicated experiments in the German Dutch Wind Tunnel (DNW) on 40%-scaled models of main - and tail-rotors with the objective to further the understanding of the physics of rotor noise generation and radiation and to provide comprehensive data bases for computational tool developments (unsteady Panel Methods for BVI and combinations of CFD and Kirchhoff-methods for high-speed impulsive noise phenomena). In the aera of airframe noise generated by the interaction of flow and deployed landing gears or wing high-lift devices on commercial aeroplanes) DLR conducts tests in the DNW to identify and rank-order the dominant sources and to develop technically feasible means to control such noise. - The presentation provides an in-depths discussion of these research activities and results to-date.
