This paper details the experimental study of roughness-induced boundary-layer transition in a hypersonic flow of moderate-enhalpy (i.e., 3.4 MJ/kg) on a 7-degree half-angle cone tested in the Hochenthalpiekanal Göttingen (HEG) at Mach 7.4. The cone model used has two different sides: one side is of a polished stainless steel finish; the other side consists of a porous insert. This work focuses on initial results obtained for the polished metal surface. Given the facility-dependent nature of experimental evaluation of distributed roughness-induced transition, the results obtained form part of a database collection for the HEG facility. These are to be used in a forthcoming shock-wave turbulent boundary-layer interaction campaign.
