Kurzfassung
Modern CAD programs usually have toolboxes with generating functions based on polynomials, Bezier splines and 3D extensions. For Aerospace design concepts, during the past decades we have become familiar with mathematical functions to describe flows including models with special aerodynamic characteristics so that physical behavior can be controlled to some extent if boundary conditions of aerospace and turbomachinery components are shaped by these same functions. An activity at DLR Göttingen therefore deals with theoretical aerodynamics investigating flows by solving their equations of motion either analytically or numerically, mainly in the compressible regime (Mach number ranging from subsonic to hypersonic applications), and apply such solutions to the development of design concepts in a very early (pre-industrial) application phase. Contacts with industry has led to some useful tools but further work in developing software for combinations with existing commercial CAD programs is needed. This course is intended to explain both an approach to generate configurations and also gasdynamic modelling of high speed flows with the intention to show that geometry and gasdynamics together can improve conceptual design tools, especially if combined with already operational commercial tools.
