Abstract

This contribution concerns the numerical prediction of high-lift wing slat noise. A zonal RANS-LES simulation was carried out. Within this approach active backscattering was realized to model the supplementary turbulent production caused by the non-resolved scales together with their turbulent scattering effect on the resolved wave-number scales. The CAA code solves the nonlinear Navier-Stokes equations utilizing Non-Linear Disturbance Equations (NLDE). The inclusion of active turbulent backscatter aims to provide a physical more complete subfilter forcing model as being possible with a purely dissipative model. This might help to reduce grid resolution requirements in Large Eddy Simulations (LES). The F16 wing geometry with deployed high-lift devices was used as testcase for this approach. The flow topology inside the slat cavity as well as the noise generation mechanisms are described and comparisons to experimental data are presented.
