Layer determination of buidling structures with SAR in near field environment

Haas, Alexander and Peichl, Markus and Dill, Stephan (2019) Layer determination of buidling structures with SAR in near field environment. European Radar Conference, 2019-10-02 - 2019-10-05, Paris, France.

Abstract

Architects and civil engineers involved in the renovation of building structures have a high need to know accurate information about the building envelope. For old buildings in Germany that were built before 1979, in many cases the information about the inner wall structure of the buildings is not available or incomplete. Microwave radiation is an excellent way of non-destructively extracting information about the building envelope. DLR is currently investigating the possibility of using the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) method to produce highly accurate images of the building envelope. With the help of which it is now possible to deduce the number of layers built into the masonry.
