Abstract

The article describes how the average annual seismic moment rate of a planet can be estimated from a small set of the strongest events ever observed. The approach is evaluated for real data catalogs of earthquakes, and synthetic catalogs for Mars. The method will be applied to data returned by the InSight mission to Mars
