Abstract

This lecture deals with the first steps of the development of a ray tracing code for the assessment of acoustic shielding effects of engine installations at new aircraft configurations. A low noise aircraft concept (LNA), developed by DLR in the project "Konfigurationen 2020" within Germany's nationalaeronautical research program III is used as a test case for acoustic shielding along with the B747 aircraft representing a conventional configuration. The basic acoustic ray equations with and without taking a mean flow field into account are given. The emphasis is laid on the details of the numerical algorithm. So far, only the reflection of rays at the geometry is implemented in the code.
