Abstract

This chapter reviews the status of space missions employing high resolution laser interferometry, a technology which just recently entered space operation. Two application areas i) space-based gravitational wave detection and ii) earth gravity field measurement are discussed and the mission concepts and technology development for space are described, with the focus on distance metrology relying on heterodyne interferometry.
