Abstract

We present the results obtained within the Low Distortion Thick-Disk 400 mJ Amplifier project. This project has been funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) in order to demonstrate the feasibility of an efficient new amplifier design that is insensitive to thermal lensing effects even for an output optical power level of 40 W. The resulting breadboard version achieved the expected characteristics, showing good beam quality whatever the repetition rate or energy level tested, up to 100 Hz and 400 mJ. The design is based on disks that act as active mirrors. The wavefront of the amplified beam is managed for any pumping power with no active element. This results in very short warm-up times and ease of use of this robust amplifier.
