Abstract

An extensive noise shielding database was acquired in the 3m DNW-NWB acoustic windtunnel. A laser pulse source realized with a special optical focussing system for large focus lengths was used to generate well defined monopole type non-intrusive source signals even at conditions with flow. The shielding properties of three different aircraft models, DLR's Low Noise Aircraft, a Hybrid Wing Body configuration and DLR's F17E UCAV model were measured. This data will help validate numerical simulation methods (ray tracing, fast multipole wave solvers, and LEE solvers), and will be used for the formulation of low-noise aircraft design guidelines. This is an important step for the further development of a complete aircraft low noise design capability.
