Abstract

This paper explores existing vibration correlation technique approaches for the buckling load of imperfection-sensitive laminated composite cylindrical shells. A numerical assessment is proposed based on ten nominal equally unstiffened cylinders tested for buckling. Three vibration correlation technique methods previously defined for imperfection-sensitive structures are compared. Matlab® and Python algorithms are developed to pre and postprocess the finite element models towards the evaluation of the natural frequency variation for several compressive load steps up to the buckling load of the structure. The results corroborate the method proposed by Arbelo in 2014 as the most appropriate for imperfection-sensitive laminated composite unstiffened cylindrical shells.
