Abstract

Morning glories - wind squalls accompanied by spectacular roll clouds - are observed quite regularly (especially in October) around the Gulf of Carpentaria in Northern Queensland, Australia. This article gives a short introduction to the phenomenon itself, reports the activities during the last expedition (11th to 25th October 1982) and presents first results, such as streamlines and horizontal wind components in a frame of reference moving with the glory.
