Abstract
Robust modeling of thermo-fluid systems is of major importance within aviation. After all, the environmental control system is the biggest on-board consumer of energy in a large passenger aircraft. The strict requirements on safety and weight as well as the large discrepancies between design cases and main operating points, lead to elaborate architectures that are often challenging for modeling and simulation. This seminar talk provides an overview of these current challenges and shows how the occurring problems can be addressed. Since this work is based on the open Modelica standard for system modeling, the undertaken approaches shall be of general value and also interesting for related applications outside the aviation sector, such as simulation of buildings or power plants.
