Abstract

Preceding work has been performed to extend the incompressible version of the DLR in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics Code TAU to simulate isothermal two-phase flows. A Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach and a finite volume discretization are used. This model is currently extended to simulate heat and mass transfer to simulate phase transition phenomena in the two-phase flows in order to further increase the predictability of flows in upper stages. In an additional step the inclusion of non-isothermal behavior and phase change is currently performed. Furthermore, this model is at present extended to allow for the numerical simulation of physical phenomena related to bubble formation (growth and collapse).
